Interview versus Interrogation
Private investigators sometimes find themselves interviewing a person they believe is an innocent witness, and then without warning, the interviewee says or does something to indicate personal guilt. A transition in the questioning style needs to be made quickly. In other cases, the private investigator has strong suspicions about a person's guilt well in advance. In either case, knowing the differences between interview and interrogation can be critical.

Video Smoke Detection (VSD)
Two UK companies, axonX and D-Tec, announced development of a technology that has advantages over the traditional point-based fire detection provided by smoke detectors. Often used in large interior areas, smoke detectors do not activate until the fire is fairly well advanced. VSD equipment uses algorithms to detect smoke from images projected by standard CCTV cameras. The response time is shortened considerably, which makes it ideal in places where high-value assets are stored. (Source: SECURITY SYSTEM NEWS, United Publications, Yarmouth, ME.)
