How Is Wireless Security Changing the Alarm Installation Industry?

Wireless security is a new advancement that, like all advancements, brings with it a mixed bag of good and bad for the security industry – particularly for alarm installers. Here is a list of 5 changes wireless security is making within the industry and both the positive and negative aspects that they bring for installers.

Portability

The ease of installation of wireless components means that they no longer require professional installers to set up in a number of instances. While this may not seem to be a positive for installers it also means that more people will utilize alarm systems, which is a boon to the alarm industry on the whole. One of the biggest perks that alarm companies have to offer in the first place is active monitoring of systems outside the home. Wireless portability means that companies can now offer security to clients when they are not in their home. Imagine clients being able to take wireless cameras and portable sensors with them when they travel, where their safety can be monitored by the same company around the globe, while still keeping watch over their home at the same time. Installers are still necessary to set up home systems, but portable systems can be set up by the clients themselves while in remote locations after they are trained by installers.

Maneuverability

As the needs of clients change, installers can now quickly reconfigure systems to keep up with those changing needs. Wireless installation will allow installers to quickly include or exclude certain areas, even for periodic needs. Certain areas of a home can be configured for social events while other configurations can be made seasonally when different outdoor areas are in use or not in use. Wireless systems give installers far greater flexibility than wired systems, that can also be changed quickly and easily.

Multiple Backups

While at one time, wired security was considered to be the safest and most secure, in reality wires can be cut and security that relies on an intact wire to communicate is vulnerable in and of itself. Wireless security offers a multitude of communication options, including relay systems, cell based service, VoIP and internet. When one route is down, such as in a power outage, wireless systems can utilize a different route. If a cell signal is jammed, the security system can still communicate via internet or a relay placed in a nearby home.

Lowered Cost

Thanks to the lowered costs of wireless security hardware, monitored security is now available to a greater number of people, which also creates a bigger market. In tandem with the convenience of reconfiguring systems quickly and easily, this also helps to create a larger job market for installers.

More User Friendly

In addition to allowing clients to have greater control over their own security, it also allows them greater ease of use. Wireless systems can be configured to recognize a certain cell phone or wearable device like an Apple Watch, that takes away the need for entering a code every time a client enters or exits their home. Door locks can be programmed automatically to offer access to certain individuals and changed immediately once they leave. This is also changing the job of installers as they now need to have the skills necessary to integrate the alarm system with a number of different personal mobile devices and educate clients on how to use the devices to control the system.

One thing that has not changed about the role of alarm system installers is that they still need the highest levels of personal insurance protection. Call the professionals at El Dorado today to make sure that you are fully covered for any disaster, emergency or event!
