Private Investigator Exposes $400 Million Ponzi Scheme

Michael G. Kessler Featured on CNBC’s American Greed as Private Investigator New York, NY Friday, May 04, 2012 Michael G. Kessler, President & CEO of Kessler International, a global forensic accounting and corporate investigation firm, has been featured on CNBC’s American Greed Episode 60, “The $400 Million Rip Off” as the Private Investigator that was instrumental in uncovering Nicholas Cosmo’s $400 million Ponzi scheme. Kessler explored Cosmo’s background uncovering various red flags relating to his associated companies, employees and financial dealings that all pointed to the clear existence of a Ponzi scheme. He then referred the matter to the FBI for further investigation.

Cosmo was sentenced to 25 years in prison, and participated in the episode via a telephone interview. Several of Cosmo’s victims were also showcased, describing how their life savings were squandered in investments made with Cosmo’s now defunct firm Agape World. Kessler advises that consumers need to approach investment firms offering high rates of return with extreme caution, performing their own due diligence before investing any money. Investment opportunities in bridge loans such as those perpetrated by Cosmo are not usually solicited to the general public on such a broad scale. Even a little bit of research can sometimes uncover several indicators that would have prevented many consumers from making the mistake of investing in a fraudulent investment operation.
